How to create a website for artists in the music business

The primary reason for artists, particularly up-and coming acts, to invest the time, energy, and a modest amount of money into a quality website is that the internet provides a worldwide audience for their music. In addition a strong website can serve as a cheaper alternative to a traditional press kit. While virtually all major recording artists now use the internet as a vehicule to nurture their fan base, a strong web presence can lend credibility to a new artist's profile. Serving at advertisement, distribution outlet and information ressource all at once.
One of the principle reason to build a website for an artist is to announce and share information about up coming performances and tours. A website should include this information in the home page or provide a prominent link in the home page to separate web page containing updated information.
The artist should learn at least enough computer code to be able to delete old events and add new concerts so the website is always up to date.
Sales of music through the net has become  an important source of incremental income for many indies artists. With the advent of online music stores such CD baby and i tunes, purchasing music online has become a common practice for consumer under a certain age.
What need to be bring to the table.
They are three essentials forms of content that an artist need to furnish to create a website.
They are : Bio, high quality photo and at least several high quality samples of your music. This item has traditionally constituted a basic press package that managers and agents use for package promotion, to get clubs deal and records deals. They are also the core of a good website. Other essential items are tour schedules and email sign in for guests. Aditionnal materials, such as digital video files of performances and links to article press add 'flavor'.
Build up and use an email list.
The emails sign up should be easy to use and without asking to many informations. To encourage fans to sign up for their emails list, some band offers incentives in their website. For instance, rewards a guest by early notice of a concert or discount on a cd.
The navigation need to be simple and very well anderstood. they need to be able to get what they want in no more than 4 clicks. you have to put hierarchy on them, between what you want them to do and what they have to do in order to get what you want.
For instance : do you want them to listen a sample of your music withing 4 clicks ?
That probably the first thing they would do. they will try to figure out how to listen your music and we have to let them hear it before 4 clicks. The second things there are going to do is to find out where the artist is playing. If they like what they hear they are going to find out if they can experience the artist's live.
The next things we want them to do - which is not something they are going to do very easily is to register for your email list. That is the first things to accomplish before they leave the site. That's probably the hardest thing to do.Some artists add "pop up" in their website which could be a good strategy to encourage fans to buy your album or sign up.
